English Mastiff Super Bowl of Sorts

May Day - May Day !!!

Tis the season to be ... well, jolly for some and stressful for others. Between the first weekend and the third each year in May, one of the largest weekend gatherings of Ole English Mastiffs begins.

On the first Saturday of the month they come together in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and they prance across the historic Delaware River into Trenton, New Jersey for Sunday. Some from Europe and other parts of the globe, but mostly from the USA, and almost every eastcoast mastiff fancier attempts to be there.

Approximately 175 in Bucks & 150 in Trenton this year! Even the judges make a sojourn to be there. Bucks' judge from Belgium and Trenton's from the UK.

Following this annual mastiff event is the breed's parent club annual, and this year that will be held in western North Carolina. The Specialty is a week long event and only English Mastiff's of pure breed may compete. There are few events like this one and it is a must see. I was there last year with Dawn Edge Curious Georgeanne, when at 10 months she placed in the top 4 at Bucks and third of four in Trenton. This year we return at 22 months of age and better equipped to compete for one of three placements where she may win 5 points towards 15 needed for a AKC Championship. To do so a dog under AKC rules must place Winners Dog (boy), Winners Bitch (girl), Best of Winners (either) or non CH mastiff as Best of Breed.
